Wisteria photoshoot in Prague for natural portraits
We did this session with Alena because we wanted to take advantage of the Wisterias. As they bloom for only a short time in Prague, the beginning of May was the perfect timing.
Before the shoot, we discussed her outfit and decided to go for two options: pants and shirt, then a dress. Everything in white, so she could pop out in front of the Wisteria, that are already a beautiful color. I also asked her to bring a book so we can use it as an accessory.
Even though I guide my clients during a shoot and I usually have some specific ideas in mind, I don’t over-guide them. Read for more details!
1- Too much direction can make people stiff
I guide you, but I don’t control you. I like to create a safe space rather than “perfect poses”, because people can easily get too focused on posing, and become too rigid. That’s why I like to give you some freedom.
2- Letting you interact with the environment
When you have a background as beautiful as those Wisterias, it’s easy to use it for posing. Touching the flowers, smelling them, looking at them, walking around…
Giving someone something to interact with removes awkwardness and makes it feel less like a photoshoot, more like having fun. It also creates real expressions and shifts focus away from the camera.
When people have something to do, they stop thinking about how they look. So the pictures come ou more natural, authentic and beautiful.
3- A bit of guidance still matters
Don’t get me wrong, I still guide you during your photoshoot. Even before, actually. I send my clients a welcome guide with tips on how to prepare. I suggest outfits, accessories, locations. It’s intentional but subtle direction. Then during the session, I still tell you what to do, just not in a strict manner.
4- Why my approach feels more like you
By giving a bit of guidance but letting the people some freedom, they recognize themselves in the photos. They don’t feel like they look like someone they are not, doing poses they would never do in their life.
They don’t feel pressured, so they feel more confident. This way, images feel more personal and less “performed”.
So if you’re looking for a natural portrait photographer in Prague, where you don’t have to worry about posing, I’d love to create something with you!
